Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was an exceptional child. For a young Irish girl who was surrounded by gifted parents and extended family, these qualities were normal. Maureen was born in this cosy sanctuary on August 17th, 1920. Her family was her parents and family members. She was the daughter of Marguerita Lilburn FitzSimons, was a talented contralto. His father, Charles FitzSimons, managed an enterprise in Dublin and was also the owner of the renowned Irish soccer club "The Shamrock Rovers." Maureen was the third of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen did well in sports and was a lover of rough play. Additionally her talent, she also had a knack to act. That was apparent when she was awarded each Feis for drama and theater which Ireland could offer. As she reached the age of 14 she was accepted by the Abbey Theater accepted her and permitted her to pursue her dreams of classical theater and opera singing.
